Weekly WRMHL 2/27

The last three weeks have been... a bit of a blur. I've had a lot of projects in the works, and a lot of goals I wanted to accomplish by the end of the month. On top of that this month has been filled with snow days and sick days, and since I do a majority of my creative work at school during my prep and lunch, the time I have been at work has been even more pressurized. 

ANYWAY there has been no minis painted since way back in the beginning of the month. I have been DEEP in my build for the second Brothers of Promethium scenario. One goal for February was finish the build part of it, and I'm happy to say tonight will be mostly making the piece more structurally sound, and putting a few more rivets on before painting begins. I can't share much about what I'm working on, I've been sworn to secrecy, but since this blog does not get the traffic that a IG post would get here is a little teaser (don't tell gage):

Obviously it's just one small part of a greater whole, but it's been a lot of that at night before bed.

I also created some collages for the event, which I also can't share but here is one:

Aside from that I have made some more xerox manipulated photographs focusing on a semi-abandoned factory near my house:

And I finished the rough copy of w0rmh0l3.EX my zine which will be out for Adepticon, here's the cover:

And I've also been slowly plugging along with track for a new album, I thought I'd keep the stoke up by creating a mock cover, which may or may not be the final:

I made the original collage alongside my daughter (who's getting better at this stuff every day!)

Well, feels good to have gotten all this done. February was fast and furious, and I'm slightly more ambitious still for March. Trying to move these projects ahead when I can!

Weekly WRMHL 2/6

Back again for another studio update!

Last weekend was the Godling show, which not only meant I was running around last week to get ready for the weekend, but it also meant I didn't post anything.

Here's some models for the Nurgle project I've finished up in the last couple weeks:

I'm still working on how exactly I'll make a youtube video that is somewhat coherent. I'm guessing it'll be a video that will show how I bash, how I've been painting, and a highlight on the army - but that might be three separate ones. I've gotta figure out a easy DIY rig that's not in my way though!!

And finally, I've officially started my Spring semester for school. I'm doing an independent study with photography, specifically looking at deindustrialization of central Connecticut.

It's not really anything to write home about, as I'm knocking the rust loose and haven't taken it into lightroom or anything.

However my main goal is to experiment more with the Xerox machine (my true love) and make more things like this:

I'm pretty happy with this piece, even though it's just an experiment to show my mentor to see what she thinks. It'll be on display this month at a local gallery space for their "Order and Chaos" show. 

The work is based around Anselm Kiefer's photography, but done through my voice... Here's one of his photos:

I wasn't a big fan of his work until recently - but I had a book kicking around my house that's been diggin' a hole in my head lately.

There Will Come Soft Rains - "Godling' @Selva 2026

Well the Godling show is behind us. I plan on putting together a free Hive Scum patreon post with some of the photos that I took from the event, and I'll link that here when it's complete.

This post is just about the piece that I created. The show was organized by Martin McCoy (@martin.mccoy.art), Shane (@7he_blindman), and with help from Joe (@armageddon_bound) and Cody (@texasladybugauthority) as well as others involved with the space. They did a great job organizing and setting up the interactive exhibit.

It was a mad dash to get my work done, and I wanted it to feel like a in-between of the gallery works I've been making and something 28 focused...

The work itself started off by raiding a box of scrap electronics/big bits that I had. Originally I wanted a television mounted behind it that would be looping clips, but that was a bit too much to bite off in only a month and a half or so...

At this point the "bee" concept hadn't been figured out. I knew it was going to be something plant related but how it would all tie together I wouldn't figure out till a thrift store hunt. I went into the thrift store with my challenge: find something in that store... before my daughter starting getting too wily. I found the bee head on a remote control car, and the nerf gun pieces to tie it all together. Did another round of grit - then primed it with a heavy white zenithal.

Painting it was done in a few layers. I didn't mean for that to be the case but I kept washing paint over it and not leaving enough color behind.

As you can see - it's looking way to washed out at this point, so after a few more pushes of color we were getting somewhere

I got around 90% of the way there at the HS studio one Thursday night. Just needed to figure out the lights. Gage told me (rightfully so) that I needed to figure out a way to tie the big light together with the rest of the piece. So I went home and worked on getting that part of the piece buttoned up.

I'm pretty stoked on how the light game out. Modpodge, toilet paper and a few drips of ink while wet. then a spritz of spray paint. I may have to do a larger piece this way.

So there you have it. I wrapped it up, Gage brought it down to the show and worked with the coordinators to set it up. Gage also set me up in his hotel room, and brought the piece back, so he's a REAL MVP of the weekend.
