WRMHL 6/11

Well I can't call this a weekly update anymore HA. It's been about a month, and a busy one at that. As my second child gets closer to arrival - I've been head down trying to get all my loose ends tied up.

I still find some time here or there for some hobby however. Much of my effort has been in bashing and some light sculpting. I am working on random sci-fi duders. About 2 years ago (or more) that's all I would make and I loved it! Over the last couple years I have been mostly working on large army projects and have finished a few forces. I am glad to be back to this slower, pointless way of making INQ28 guys.

They will probably find some use here or there, but for now the satisfaction is seeing them being conjured into existence. Here are some examples:

I've also primed up a 54mm Sister of Battle that Dillon (@voidhalation) gave me. I've very stoked to try and paint at this scale.

Lastly, although I primed over it. I've been doing some hobbying with my 2 year old. The other day she dunked a blightlord terminator into my pot of basing material while we were painting and I loved the effect. I primed over it to have her paint again, she's happy to just have cool dudes to slop wet paint on so she won't mind doing this dude again:

Weekly WRMHL 5/11

Phew - it's been almost a month since I last posted. This past month (and no doubt all of May) have been swamped. Been busy with finishing up a class for school, finishing personal artwork, and setting up a show with my wife at the gallery we are a part of - on top of just a handful of small projects that have added up.

Most of those things are behind me at long last, and I'm ready for another wave of to-do. Not sure why I do this to myself but I suppose it's better than just waitin' around to die.

Been working on making models towards my new Inq28 yarn that I've been spinning. Here is a Rogue Trader named Isadore Tilcott, captain of the "Starkloss" who procures rare books and objects for Inquisitor Selene as she hides away on Hasaresh 741.

Here's a build shot of Isadore, the body is a bootleg delaque, arms are Wargames Atlantic pirates with some greenstuff work, and the head is a high elf head.

I've been working at a body of photography based on a local semi-abandoned factory:

Weekly WRMHL 4/10

Just a little dump of things I've been working on to round out the week:

I've bashed up what will be a heavily moderated psyker for my (yet named) inquisitor's retinue:

Feels good to be at the work bench again building stuff after being singularly focused on BroPro. I've started painting him too, but that'll wait til later.

I'm hoping to have a post out documenting my board and build, but likely that will be a (free?) post on the patreon, so we'll get there when I can put it back together.

I've also been working on some xerox collages, trying some new things:

This last one will be displayed at my show at the end of this month. I am working with a local photography studio to enlarge it, and I'm excited to see what scale does to transform it.

I am sure I already have enough work for the show, but I'm trying to eek out one more artwork which will be similar to the upper lit corner in my Godling work - just larger.

We'll see!

Weekly WRMHL 3/14 and Dave McKean

This last week creatively has mostly been spent buttoning up photos, which I'll put down below, but I wanted to highlight one of the artists who has inspired me for the last year or so, Dave McKean.

He's probably most well known for his Sandman covers, but he's a mixed media icon of mine

He's an illustrator not afraid of any media. Collage, photography, drawing, painting and - my favorite, using found objects, flattening them down into their final 2d cover presentation. Here's a little snapshot of the working process:

Weekly WRMHL3 - 1/23

Another week, another creative dump. Can't promise these little updates will always happen, or always be weekly, but it's a good place for me to drop some photos of work made in the past week so I can look back at it later.

This week's minis were some bashes I made sitting on Gage's couch the other night, and a skeleton cart which Gage told me was made by @manglingminis. They were painted in oils, which I haven't used in a long time, but it'll be back to being my daily driver for a while:

I made a handful of collages:

This one I applied to a collage specific show at a local gallery in the town I work in:

A couple works that I edited with the phone dramatically to create as strong a contrast as possible, something like this will likely be the cover of my next album (whenever I get around to that):

And lastly, I met up with the gang at the studio last night and got my artwork for Godling to about 95%. Just gotta adjust the lights a bit and drill a hole to run the wire through - oh and some way to mount it to the wall...

WRMHL Update - 1/15

Last couple months been BUSY, but I’ve really caught my stride in the last few weeks. Like most people, I have projects in the works, and sometimes those projects build up a bit. Some stagnate and lay forgotten. I’m a “daily todo list on a post-it” kinda fella and that works for me because I cannot remember what I have to do otherwise. 

Lately I’ve been working hard to complete my whole list in a day, not leave anything untouched even the little stuff. I’ve kinda reconfigured my to-do to be more realistic and it’s been helpful. I’ve cleaned up and organized my classroom and that’s helped out a lot too. 

Finally I’ve been keeping a small, book calendar, which is helpful in itself, but it’s got this random section titled PRIORITIES with six little lines. I’ve been dropping all those stagnated or medium sized to-dos on there and it’s been helpful in clearing out the backlog and accomplishing the extra “that would be cool” ideas I get. 

Anyway all my daily to-dos aren’t boring, here’s the fun stuff I’ve done this week:
