Weekly WRMHL 3/20 and Daido Moriyama

This week's been a big work week for me, lots of projects at school that took most of my bandwidth. On top of that I've been working on my board and BBEG for the Brothers of Promethium 2 Event at Adepticon, but likely I will post all my process shots over on the HS patreon when that secret project is all wrapped up.

So since it's a short week, I figured I'd highlight anther longtime influence of mine, Daido Moriyama, a Japanese Street photographer I remember learning about on tumblr (ah those were the days.)

He's got a raw, quick, black and white high contrast thing that GRIPPED ME

It's hard to even start putting images in here because he has thousands to choose from, but I've got some highlights. He's a street photography god in my mind, and his working process is beautiful. The work itself is layered, textural and the iso (either film or digital) is CRANKED up.

I think what gets me the most is his work is very intuitive, he works with his gut first - and responds instinctively. With creative pursuits we sometimes think that toiling and focusing and struggling will make our work great, I think that working quickly captures ENERGY and excitement that overworking washes out.

Here's a great quote:

Think about what that means, not just for photography but for all artforms - our end goal isn't to make artwork that people say "oh look how good you are" it's about conjuring up something that you can't explain with words.

Here's a cool video of him working/talking about his stuff (if it autodubs, use the video settings to turn back to Japanese, this AI dub aint it):

As far as what I can share, I completed a small zine that I'll handout for free at adepticon if anyone is interested. It's mostly a collection of thoughts made form - but hopefully it gives some people ideas.

Anyway PCE!
xoxo
Terry
